The Disneyland Resort visitor experience is about to change forever. Starting October 26th, guests will now have the option to use MagicBand+, a system that’s been in place in Walt Disney World for years. MagicBand+ isn’t just a new wristband to collect…it’s a multi-purpose tool meant to make your trip a little easier and add some magic to watching entertainment. While this experience is NOT mandatory for park visitors, it’s more than likely to become the norm rather than the exception in the next few years. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is MagicBand+?
MagicBand+ is a system that combines features from the Disneyland app with interactive games and lighting features all on your wrist. While the magic band is NOT mandatory to enter or enjoy the Disneyland Resort, it is a tool designed to make your trip a little easier and engaging. After all, tapping your wrist to get your park ticket is a lot easier than digging through your bag.
What can I do with a magic band?
MagicBand+ offers a number of features, and Disneyland has already teased that more are coming in the future. At launch, you can do the following with your band:
- Enter the theme parks with a connected ticket
- Redeem Lightning Lane passes
- Access photos from a PhotoPass photographer
- Play Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters in Galaxy’s Edge (also playable through the Play Disney Parks app)
- Sync up with World of Color and Fantasmic! to join in on the light displays
If you like to visit both Disneyland and Walt Disney World – good news! You’ll be able to use the same band at both resorts.
How do I use a magic band?
The magic band snaps onto your wrist. Assuming the Disneyland version is the same as that in Walt Disney World, the strap is adjustable to fit virtually any size wrist, and it’s a comfortable, lightweight material you don’t even notice after a while. To turn it on, you press a button on the back and tap the band against the back of your phone. Your phone will prompt you to open your Disneyland app, where you can link to your Disney account, or just link it to your ticket and pair it to your phone.
To charge the magic band, all you need to do it plug it into the included USB charging cable. A full charge lasts 1-3 days, depending on how much you use it during the day. And the band is waterproof, so you don’t need to remove it if it starts raining or if you go on a ride where you’ll get wet.
Where can I get a magic band?
Right now, Disneyland doesn’t have any information listed about purchasing a magic band online. I will update this post if that changes in the future, which seems likely. For now, you can purchase a band at the following locations (starting Oct. 26):
Disneyland
California Adventure
Downtown Disney & Resort Hotels:
Can I customize my magic band?
You can’t change the overall look of a magic band, but you can definitely choose the color! At launch, MagicBand+ will offer 18 colors/patterns for the wrist band. And if it follows suit with its Florida counterpart, that number will continue to grow. And if you’re a Magic Key holder, you can purchase a special Magic Key design that lights up.
