In anticipation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (a.k.a. Star Wars Land) this summer, Disneyland has been making both minor and major improvements to prepare the park for an influx of crowds, perhaps unlike ever before. Technically, this work began before this year, but Disney finally confirmed all the construction activities have been part of one unified effort, called Project Stardust. Project Stardust will conclude late this spring, just before the grand opening of Galaxy’s Edge. So, what exactly does this project include?
Here are the elements already completed as part of Project Stardust:
- Complete replacement of Main Street USA’s track & new brickwork
- New queues and shade structures for Dumbo, It’s A Small World, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds
- New stroller parking in Adventureland & opening of Tropical Hideaway
- New indoor and temperature-controlled queue section for Space Mountain
Gradually, Disneyland has also been widening walkways by relocating planters and seating areas, as well as moving stroller areas to locations further away from main traffic areas. Some vendor carts have also moved further back from main pathways as Disney hopes to alleviate congestion within the park as much as possible.
The remaining construction and refurbishment efforts specifically part of Project Stardust (as opposed to regular annual maintenance) include:
- Refurbishment of Sleeping Beauty Castle, including major roof repair
- Curb adjustment on Main Street USA to ease access from the park’s entrance
- Additional planter, stroller parking, and seating area adjustments
