No matter the season, you’ll find an abundance of flowers beautifying the Disneyland resort. But one particular flower holds a special place in the group – a namesake specially cultivated for the mouse.

The Disneyland rose is a rich pink and golden flower that is particular popular with butterflies. In the early 2000s, the Disney horticulture team decided to create a signature flower, but it had some tricky requirements. This flower had to have large blooms, a distinctive color, and could hold its own against theme park realities like rust, prolonged sun exposure, and pests. Horticulturist Karen Hedges found the perfect one, and the Disneyland rose was born.

The first Disneyland roses were planted at the park gates in 2002, and today they can be found in several spots around the park. Keep your eyes peeled for their distinctive pink/gold hue; they’re easier to spot than you think!

I was wondering if the roses around the Monorail were the Disneyland rose! I took the “Cultivating the Magic” tour awhile ago, and remember the tour guide showing off the rose in a small area near Dumbo, but when I went to show it to a friend, it was gone! And when I asked a Guest Relations CM at one of the kiosks, she had no idea what I was talking about!
I’m so glad you did a spotlight on this! It’s one of the gems I feel like so few people know about.
I am SO sad I didn’t get to do the cultivating the magic tour before they discontinued it. It seemed so interesting!!! And really sad the CM didn’t know about it 🙁 But yes, you’ve been vindicated! haha.
